Upcoming Events

30 weeks of term time – that’s 210 days! So exactly what does our ISoc do with all this time? Well, here’s a little glimpse of what we have in store for you:
FREE IFTAARS AND TARAWIH
Too tired to cook a meal for Iftaar after a whole day of classes? ISoc to the rescue! We will be providing Iftaars on weekdays in Ramadan insha’Allah. In past years we have been blessed with donations from various members
which allowed us to carry out this blessed event free of charge. Daily donations will also be collected to help with this blessed event. Food will be served after Maghrib prayers in the Prayer Hall. Usually a variety of
Pakistani, Malaysian, Arab and Western food is provided on different days. Iftaars are usually followed by congregational Isha and Tarawih prayers for both sisters and brothers.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER AND JUMMAH
Besides the five daily prayers in congregation, we also organise Jummah prayers on campus in the Prayer Hall for both, sisters and brothers. This is normally led by a brother from our membership. In fact, if you are interested
in being a Khateeb for Jummah, please let us know. The format of the Khutbah is based on the guidance in Fiqh-us-Sunnah and although the required parts are said in Arabic, the rest is delivered in English so that we
can all understand the message. If you are interested in giving Khutba, please contact  Welfare Officer at: Z.Shahid@warwick.ac.uk. Details on prayer timings can be found on the ISoc website and in the Prayer Hall.

CHARITY EVENTS/DONATIONS
After every Jummah, we have a collection (Sadaqah) for people suffering in third world countries. The generosity shown by our members has enabled us to donate a considerable abount in charity every year.
If you would like to contribute individually to this pool or would like to know exactly where the money goes, please feel free to contact our Treasurer, Omar at O.al-Maery@warwick.ac.uk.

TALKS WITH Q&A SESSIONS
Talking about Islam is a good way of learning, but listening to a renowned speaker is probably even better. Alhamdulillah, we are an ISoc blessed with Muslims from all backgrounds and the speakers we invite reflect this diversity. In the last couple of years we have been fortunate enough to hear from renowned speakers such as Dr.
Zakir Naik (India), Yahya Ibrahim (Canada), Hamza Andreas Tzortzis (UK), Sheikh Shabbir Ally (Canada), Sheikh Jamaludeen Hysaw (USA), Sheikh Al Habib Kazim Al-Saqqaf (Yemen) and many more. Insha’Allah we look forward
to some more riveting talks this year. A massive effort is put into organising ISoc talks and hence we would like to
see your support through attendance. After all, we are inviting speakers from all over the world just for YOU.

SOCIAL EVENTS
University is filled with countless social opportunities, but how many are Halal for Muslims? In all honesty, not many! But does this mean that Muslim students are doomed to a life of studying & eating only? Not if we can help it! Want a trip to Alton Towers? Feel like a game of paintball? Want to go bowling in Coventy, or even a trip to Cadbury World? ISoc will help organise it! Basically whatever you may want, be sure to let your ISoc know! We will gladly organise
separate events for sisters and brothers if there is sufficient demand. In fact, we already have several socials planned. Check out the ISoc events calendar or the ISoc website for a jam packed timetable of our events.

SPORTS
Many people enjoy a “kick about”, a few games of squash, swimming or even a cricket session. Our ISoc aims to stay ‘on the ball’ by arranging numerous sporting activities over the academic year for brothers and for sisters of all abilities. The sisters have previously enjoyed badminton, swimming as well as aerobic classes, and for the brothers, we have organised weekly football sessions. As always though, if there is any other sport that you would like us to organise, please let us know. Check out the events calendar to see what’s in store for this term! As for the really competitive ones out ther we plan to hold a few tournaments throughout the year, so make sure you get some early training under your belt; the ISoc can have some strong competition!

ISLAMIC AWARENESS WEEK
Islamic Awareness Week (IAW) is a jam-packed week of talks, stalls, dinners and much, much more. The entire week is exclusively dedicated to raising awareness about Islam on campus, and correcting any misconceptions. Our primary aim is to inform people and be accessible to anyone who has any question whatsoever about Islam, and to do so in a relaxing and respectful manner.
Throughout we distribute FREE literature about Islam. Last year was Alhamdulillah a great success: Our ISoc managed to set up a day-long booth outside the Arts Centre during the Prayer Hall Open Day as a way of doing da’wah, with a lot of members participating in distributing leaflets and answering questions asked by Muslim and non-Muslim communities alike.

Besides, a series of captivating talks were also held during the week. The week started off with a talk delivered on Jesus-Prophet of Islam and a talk on The Abrahamic Faiths – Conflicts or Co-existence on Monday and Tuesday respectively . On Wednesday, our prayer hall open day was held where we gave tours of our prayer hall facilities to the public in order to encourage a greater interest and understanding in how we use it. A booth was also set up during the day, as has been mentioned above. The week ended successfully with a screening of the documentary entitled Inside Mecca,
which portrayed beautifully the way Muslims perform their pilgrimage at the Islam’s most sacred place-Holy Kaaba in Mecca.
We also had the enchanting Cultural Night– an evening for Muslims and non-Muslims alike to celebrate and learn about Islam’s rich cultural past and present diversity, complemented by live Qur’an recitations, live nasheeds, and of course, dinner!

We hope to see you and your friends attend, and better still if you want to help make this the most amazing week of the year and take part in great dawah, please get in touch, as preparations will begin in term one!

ARABIC CLASSES
Have you ever read the Quran and wished you understood the words better? Well, we are happy to organise Arabic classes IF there is sufficient demand on it.

TAJWEED CLASSES
Tajweed classes help us improve our pronunciations and recitation of the Quran. There is absolutely no shame in admitting that many of us make errors in our pronunciation, as long as we are willing to Improve. If you would like to improve your recitation, we request the pleasure of your company at our weekly sessions with an excellent Tajweed teacher.

FIQH LESSONS
Which actions break one’s prayer? What is Islam’s view on the financial sector? What are the essentials of Umrah? All of these questions are linked with Fiqh – an understanding of how one should practice Islam. if there is sufficient demand, we are more than happy to organise Fiqh classes for the various schools of thought, so that we may all learn how to practice the Deen properly.
SEERAH LESSONS
Ever wanted to learn and understand the Seerah of the Prophet (SW)? Look no further, the ISoc organises weekly  Seerah sessions that will connect you with the life of our Beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so that his teachings and his radiant example shine into your everyday life.
