Experience Islam Week

Mawlid al-Nabi (birth of the prophet Muhammad pbuh) is approaching and we would like you to take this opportunity to understand more about the life of the Prophet by attending the weekly seerah classes as well as Experience Islam Week (EIW), a week long celebration devoted to raising awareness about Islam, generating debate and celebrating diversity.

1.Talk: Credit Crunch, Don’t Blame The Banker

Credit Crunch!, the world economy was bubbling from Dubai to Delhi and all of a sudden, the bubbles burst out and the whole financial system was brought down to its knees. Whose fault was that? The bankers? The politicians?

Come and spend your evening with an insightful view on the recent credit crunch, and a glimpse of possibilities on what Islamic banking has to offer as a solution.

2. Talk: Building Bridges, by Sheikh Rafat Najm

Tuesday, 2 March, 6.30pm-8.00pm, at H0.51

Are you Muslim first? or British first? A question that’s sometimes being asked to the British born Muslims. Why can’t it be both?

We’ll be listening to Sheikh Rafat Najm, who will be re-examining the gulf that has been created between Islam & West and looking at the similarities they share, in terms of ethics, philosophies and politics.

3. Cultural Night

Wednesday, 3 March, 6.00pm-8.00pm, at R0.03/04

Muslims are represented by a plethora of colors, art and architecture spread over 7 continents all around the globe.

Come and taste the beautiful diversity of the muslim cultures. From Morrocan, Indian, Chinese, Eurasian to Japanese, a very beautiful mixing pot of everything.

4. Annual General Meeting & Social

Thursday, 4 March, 6.00pm, at L4

This will be an opportunity for the members to get information about the isoc’s finance as well as reviewing how the society had been run for the past year and asking any questions regarding the directions the society will take in the future.

5. Talk: Islamic And Western Political Thoughts, by Ismail Patel

Friday, 5 March, 6.00pm-8.00pm, at L4

How do Islamic & Western political thoughts compare? Can they ever peacefully, coexist together? Are they so different from each other?

Come & listen to a very informative talk by Ismail Patel who is the chair of the Leicester-based campaign Friends of Al-Aqsa.

He is also spokesperson for the British Muslim Initiative and senior advisor to the Conflicts Forum, which seeks to establish a new understanding of political Islam in the West and has a membership group spanning diplomats, academics and journalists. He is director of IslamExpo and a member of the Special Advisory Board of Clear Conscience.
